How To Be Sustainable During the Holidays

1.Bring Your Own Reusable Shopping Bags:

Using reusable shopping bags can cut down on so much plastic being thrown away, AND you can look stylish while doing it year round!

2.More Sides, Less Meat:

Now I’m not saying don’t eat meat at all…just less of it—much much less. You may not be able to resist that Thanksgiving turkey, but according to a GRAIN and Institute of Agriculture and Trade Policy report, the meat and dairy industry are on a steady track to overthrow the oil industry as the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases. In other words, the production of the meat on your plate is set to give off more harmful gases for the environment than the production of BP, Shell, and Exxon combined in the next few decades if they continue to be held without full accountability.

3.Donate Non-Perishable Items To Your Local Food Bank:

I don’t know about you, but Thanksgiving and an over-abundant amount of food are basically synonyms for each other LOL. What better way to give back to your community than to donate all of your unused non-perishable items that you purchased for the holidays to your local food bank? (Don’t know where your local food bank is? Click this link to find out (; )

4.Listen To Your Stomach, Not Your Eyes:

According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention , “Americans throw away about 25% more trash between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve.”

Think the less waste, the better.

5.Avoid Disposable Containers:

One of the best things about Thanksgiving is that there will be PLENTY of leftovers. Use and give your guest reusable containers instead of the Styrofoam ones–it takes more years than both you and I have combined for a single Styrofoam container to break down and decompose.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
